Under the Autumn Moon
Celebrating the completion of the new festival streets in Old Town/Chinatown 2006

After nearly four years of community planning and 18-months of construction, improvements to NW 3rd and 4th Avenues between Burnside and Glisan Streets were complete.

The $5.35 million project was a partnership between the Portland Development Commission (PDC) and the Portland Office of Transportation (PDOT) to achieve goals laid out in the Old Town/Chinatown Development Plan. The improvements are designed to strengthen the identity of the historic district, foster cultural and economic diversity, and promote a vibrant pedestrian environment for commercial, retail and residential uses. The entire project was designed to reflect the rich history and diverse cultures of the district while giving the neighborhood a distinct identity and design.

To officially open the renovated streets, Cindy Thompson Event Productions was hired to produce the free public celebration and oversaw all details from sponsor solicitation to entertainment selection to clean up. The weekend-long event reflected the cultural diversity that has been historically found in Oldtown/Chinatown and drew nearly 40,000 back to the neighborhood.
